I’m quite a bit late to the game posting about this, but seeing as how it’s Bandcamp Friday, it’s as good a time as any for redemption. Independent artist from New Zealand, Mikey Videotape, released an awesome Indie Rock single “Needle in a Haystack,” back in August of last year. A song I listened to compulsively for obvious reasons to anyone who has an affinity for a great melody.

Earlier this year Mikey announced a remix “challenge” to his listeners on his TikTok account. It wasn’t so much a challenge, as it was an open invitation to mess around with the song for those who appreciated it. Which I did. He sent the stems out to the interested parties, pooled together the various takes on the track, and released it on Bandcamp. I thought it was a pretty neat idea and definitely a fun experience. The version AMS did is titled “PCM Haystack,” and I’m guessing that is due to my sloppy nature in naming my audio files. PCM meaning “Pulse Code Modulation” as it’s in my muscle memory to do that now when creating music files becasue the distribution company I use employs a rigid audio requirement for 24 bit WAV files. Of course right? Obviously.

Any-hoo, here was my mix:

It’s a great tune, and the EP has an assortment of interesting, creative, and great mixes of it. If you’re looking for a Bandcamp Friday candidate today, I’d like to offer up this as a recommendation. We’re spinning the AMS version on the station as well.
