Is it me, or is spring taking its grand old time getting its ass in gear? A cold day, a hot day, a freezing day. Sure, that’s the nature of spring, I guess, but this year feels a little more tentative than others, which is why I’m glad Steve Davit released “Cherry” earlier this week. It’s not a kick in the ass, which is what I think spring needs right about now, but it is a breath of fresh air. Given my own musical proclivities, I’m hearing a trippy, lo-fi echo of the Beatles’ “Flying” from Magical Mystery Tour, particularly in the soft, loping drum beat. I’m also getting hints of Sunflower-era Beach Boys. Play “Cherry” alongside “Cool, Cool Water,” listen to those falsetto la’s at around 1:05, and tell me you don’t hear the ghost of Brian Wilson.

Catch “Cherry” by Steve Davit during “New Arrivals” and “Pop Rox” show times

    1. Fun fact: I met Steve while talking to George (of “George Around the Corner” fame).
