Brian Lambert (Denton, TX) has a new single coming out on March 24th, a cover of the song “Undressed” originally performed by Sombr. Lambert’s spin on the 2025 Alt Pop hit takes form as a synth and bass laden melancholy. One thing I like about his version in distinction to the original is the way the arrangement thins out during parts of the verses. The bass and drums in those parts do a great job of creating a familiar Alternative Rock style tension, hoisting the irresistible melody of the song into the spotlight.

Brian Lambert’s version is very much worthy of checking out, if for nothing else, to compare it to the original song. Once I heard it for the first time that’s what I did. And interestingly enough, I found Brian Lambert’s version to be more somber than the original. Heyyyoo, see what I did there? Don’t get worked up, both versions are great in my opinion. In fact, the notion that I enjoy both versions speaks to how well written of a song it is in the first place.

Sombr has come up in a few conversations I’ve been privy to lately, and to be honest, I was not familiar with his stuff until recently as a result. One example being that I read the Eclectic Music Lover blog and noticed that some Sombr songs have been featured in recent weekly “Top 30s.” It’s interesting to me, because I’m quite aware that what I perceive to be “out there” is largely within scope of underground and independent music because, well, that’s my “thang.” Yet, here we are and a steady diet of independent music still keeps me up to speed on the pulse of mainstream happpenings. Positively reinforced. Win, win if you ask me. Now I have two versions of a great song to listen to.
