I’ve never been too familiar with the genre “sea shanty,” and I came across a new arrival to the station that certainly educated me on what I’ve been missing out on. My initial impression about what I was hearing was “man oh man, this sounds like Flogging Molly with a slapping bass and 808s…” was I out of bounds on that? Would it be wrong to think of “sea shanty” as a kin to Flogging Molly? Because I do love that band. I honestly didn’t know, I was observing purely out of ignorance at that the time. All I did know upon listening to “Old Mick” by Pressgang Mutiny was that it sounded super interesting and excellent. I don’t believe I’ve heard anything quite like it before. Check it out:
