Hi there.
It’s been a while since I’ve written on the blog, I took a bit of a hiatus since June. Marc did AMS a solid and kept us up to speed with some indie music news into July and big thank you to him for those contributions. I think anyone who’s experienced some burnout – especially when it comes to creative writing – would tell you just how much a break is necessary when you’re up against not feeling inspired and self-pressuring yourself to keep on a “content schedule.”
The fantastic news is that I’m feeling refreshed and ready to get back on track.
With that being said, how about we get to some big updates, yeah? First let’s talk about a somber end of an era – Tweetcore Radio Hour. The final epsiode aired on AMS Radio last month on Christmas Day. The Podcast episode, however, was removed from Podcatchers because “music was detected” and there wasn’t enough talking.
“Try not to read that and laugh challenge” was the first thought that came to mind when receiving that news. But anways, here is the finale in case you didn’t see the Mixcloud embed the updated post (link for email readers, and embedded on the post for all others):
Now don’t be sad, because the end of one era is just the beginning of a new one. Same timeslot, same weekly frequency, there is a new show hosted by Marc called “Abominations Radio“airing both on AMS Radio and distributed in Podcast form just as Tweetcore Radio Hour was. The show will be a slightly a different format, one more in line with Marc’s blog Abominations. The first episode aired yesterday … tune in next Wednesday for EP2!
New schedule – This is an annual thing. Our station is a licensed Live365 station and the way the software works is that any recurring “events” (I call them shows, but whatever) are coded to have “end dates.” So what I do is set all the shows up to be reconciled at the end of every said year. Sometimes that’s an easy peasy thing, sometimes it’s a heavy lift depending on how many shows and timeslots we have in rotation. Bottom line, check out the new schedule on the Radio Shows page for the latest. And of course, you can always find what’s “now playing” and a Show Schedule embeded on our Wix page at amsradio.com (personally, my favorite way to listen but see our LinkTree for all the different ways to tune in).
So what have we been doing since going on a bit of a blog hiatus since July? Well, contrary to what one might think – we haven’t been twiddling thubs. Actually, it’s been actually quite busy putting out some new compilations. Three compilations to be exact:
- “Music That Changed My Life” (18 artists) – independent artists covering artists and songs that had a significant impact on their lives
- “Boys Don’t Cry” (12 artists) – independent artists breaking gender boundaries and covering songs by artists of a different gender that had significant impacts on their lives
- “Indie Dog Days of Xmas Volume Two” (12 artists) – C’mon you know this one by now right?! This is our annual “Xmas Alternative” and it was just as much of a blast as last year’s.
In retrospect, just taking a look at the release dates, the blog’s hiatus wasn’t so much a hiatus as it was us just shifting focus to some cool new projects for a while. In fact … if you happen to be an artist (I talk with so many of you guys every day) and are reading this – there is a compilation concept in the works for Summer of 2025 tenatively called: “Fire From my Childhood.” Please reach out to me on the contact page if interested in participating!
The concept for the upcoming compilation is based on the premise that I remember some pretty rad theme songs from shows I used to watch from back in the day when I was a strapping young lad. So why not cover some of these songs? And yes. I will be aging myself just a tad bit by telling you that the two tracks I’ll be covering for the compilation: “As Long as We Got Each Other” from the show “Growing Pains,” and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” (the 90s cartoon version). As with last year’s compilations, I’m mighty interested in seeing what other artists cover. Anyone up for “Captain Planet” … eh? “Scooby Doo” perhaps? See? Endless possibilities.
Going into 2025 I’ve found a reguvinated interest in rearranging the AMS Discord server. It’s basically set up to be an Indie Music hangout / library. It’s a place to find the latest on independent music blogs, music news, and “now playing” notifications for the radio station, as well as a place to chat about the shows when tuned in. I tend to call it a “library” because if you’ve ever tried Discord before, you’ve probably seen how “noisy” and complicated some servers can get to be. There’s a ton of different ways people use their servers these days. I set the AMS one up to be a very casual and lax experience. Just a place to check in and hang out. Which is ideal for many who may have tried out Discord before and went “whoa, what the heck is all this.” You can find “temporary” invite links on the AMS Link Tree to poke around and check things out. If interested in sticking around and being part of the community on the server, shoot me a DM for a permanent invite!
Here’s a playlist of some of my favorite indpendent music that was released in 2024. Stream from your preferrred DSP!
