Scoopski Seasons Your Summer with “Seasonal”

Summer. It’s a hot one, isn’t it?! And I’m not talking about the weather. Lots of scorching releases by independent artists have been dropping left and right this year making it a summer to remember. As it turns out, since interviewing Mr. and Mrs. Scoopski back in January, they too were only just warming up. The Power-Pop duo from Philadelphia dropped a summer jewel on us late last month, fittingly titled “Seasonal,” on June 21st. It’s a track that is not “summer sounding” like a Beach Boys song. Rather, a bit moody, a bit mysterious, almost a somber type of vibe like Bananarama’s “Cruel Summer.” Nevertheless, don’t let the intermittent minor chord progressions fool you, it’s a love song! Indeed, Scoopski in signature style is bringing you some Pop-Rock generated by the power of love! Posing the limitless and timeless question:

“Ever fallen in love?

In the summertime?

… With a snow globe?“

Ahhhh yes. Smitten with love and … wait did they just say snow globe? My god. Has Scoopski gone full-blown Darko on this one? No. No. Of course not. Sorry to leap to such a conclusion. That initial projection was just some of my own subliminal baggage I carry around thanks to certain episodes of “My Weird Addiction” that I can no longer un-see.

In fact, upon first listen I found the new song incredibly enchanting and lyrically rather deep. “Loneliness is just a state of mind” and “I’m not seasonal I’m yours for all time” for instance, with only the context of “summer” in mind led me down the path of thinking about seasonal depression! Albeit, after seeing Scoopski’s social media posts and reading the press release, the snow globe context adds a whole new underlying layer of clarification. Scoopski elaborates further:

“The song “Seasonal” is about a man descending into madness while falling in love in the summertime… with a snowglobe. The
song is sung as a duet between the man and what he envisions the snowglobe is saying to him.“

We already know a little bit about Scoopski’s history. A power couple that started as bandmates in 2011 before going on to get married and forming “Scoopski” as we know it today. Did you know the name Scoopski is a “tip of the hat” to an “Impractical Jokers” skit? I thought that was a neat behind the scenes fact to know.

They’ve also gone on to cause some viral commotion with their melodic antics. So far as to receiving a “Thank you” package from Space X after catching attention with their hit song “Elon, Send Me To Mars” and shout outs from actress Betsy Brandt from Breaking Bad on Twitter after their song “I Agree, Marie” caught momentum. The track “Mermaid Girl” has been used in several Tik Tok reels amassing over 500k views. Scoopki’s ear for melody and powerful signature mix of 1960’s pop, 1990s alternative, and first decade 2000s Pop Punk makes their music hard to ignore and something that stands out. You might have even heard them on Sirius XM or on several college radio stations around the U.S. as Scoopski continues to pick up some steam in those markets as well.

In more recent news, Mr. and Mrs. Scoopski have had some lineup changes to the band! Exciting stuff as the current lineup features some all too familiar faces around here, and artists I can say I was already a fan of before joining! I continue to be overwhelmingly fascinated with how much talented independent music is based in PA or has roots there.
