It only takes but a few seconds of listening to Brett Poindexter’s album “Echoes of Creation” to realize that this guy shreds and is someone with admirable guitar skill. His love for music, particularly guitar, began at the young age of thirteen years old. His passion for the instrument turned out to be an endeavor that paved a way to formally teaching students at just eighteen years of age. Here’s a cool video of him demonstrating both his chops and instructional prowess.
As the video depicts, it’s a “how-to” tutorial for the guitar solo he composed for the song “Oubliette” while in the band Somewhere Between. He has been in several projects over the years including Dexx, StillFear, and Halo Haven to name a few. He has achieved many accolades during his tenure with these projects including second best Hard Rock Album on Amazon and opening for several notable acts such as Nonpoint, Powerman 5000, Lacuna Coil and more. With “Echoes of Creation,” Brett Poindexter is unleashing a span of experience and influence across the Hard Rock genre and carving out his own unique sound.

The thing I like about the album the most is that it is much more intricate than your standard “Hard Rock” album. While at the same time, it also brings about that straightforward, fist-pumping, anthemic feel that people are looking for in a Hard Rock album. Hence, it’s not Meshuggah, but it’s not anything like the bland type of “Hard Rock” they push on mainstream radio. Each track is a well-balanced opus of sophisticated heavy arrangements, and intricately woven melodies.

The opening track to the album, “Take Me (Pt. 1),” is a stand-out track to me in particular. At nine minutes in length, it is exemplary of all the compositional avenues Brett takes on in his writing. I would recommend his music for fans of Metallica, Tool, Rhodes-Era Ozzy, and Kane-Roberts-Era Alice Cooper.
