Rod Coleman is a Pacific Northwest multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and recording artist who has been involved in many projects and solo releases over the years (Groovebirds, Navigate North, Organic Acid to name a few). He is a current member of The Groovebirds with Tracy Coleman and Phil Carroll, contributing drums, percussion, keyboards, vocals, and songwriting. His contributions help shape the band’s alternative and contemporary rock sound. However, a listen to the band reveals that each member typically writes and performs their own material – contributing to the band’s overall collective sound.

And we recently have had some Groovebirds tunes land on Jukebox! Three new singles from an upcoming album titled “It Was Another Time” are in rotation on the station and available to add to your Jukebox collection. A solo effort by Coleman called “People Can Be So Dramatic,” is also in the mix. You can hear the music of Rod Coleman and The Groovebirds during several show times throughout the week on “Indie Anarchy,” “Bandcamping,” and “Pop Rox.”

Full disclosure there was no way for me to make this post without bias, I’ve been listening to Rod Coleman’s music since the 90s, he’s my uncle. I was in a band with my brother and cousins at the time and he was just operating at a different level that we all looked up to. To this day, if I’m somewhere talking local music in the Portland area and I happen to mention him, it would not be out of the ordinary for some to say something to me like, “What? YOU are Rod Coleman’s nephew??” It’s happened a time or two beofre, it’s a trip.
