Estella Dawn has a unique way of crafting pop songs that lyrically just gut-punch you right in the emotions. That’s probably the best reasoning I can apply to explaining why I’m such a fan. Her latest single, “Hometown” is no exception, and after listening through for the first time I swiveled right over to Qobuz to buy it and add it to rotation on AMS Radio.

Currently an artist based in San Diego, CA, Dawn reflects on “making it out” of her New Zealand hometown on the new single. The lyric, “oh I used to call that shit winning, but honestly I don’t even think about it now,” resonated with me deeply and my own love/hate relationship with my hometown. I found a lot of this song to be relatable in many ways, especially for those of us who took a chance on uprooting ourselves from our hometowns and the stigmas that came along with it. Hear “Hometown” on AMS Radio during “New Arrivals” and “Pop Rox.” Check out the lyric video for the song on YouTube.
